About the Role

The Manager Enterprise is accountable for leading a team of accounting professionals in the development and delivery of personal and corporate tax returns, compilation engagements and related reports. The Manager also provides support and guidance for the senior leadership team.

Responsibilities

Let's Get Specific

Reviews various income tax slips and filings for personal and corporate tax returns, including T3s, T4s, and T5s.

Reviews (and amends as necessary) all compilation engagement documents to be issued to the client, including working papers, financial statements, planning documents, notes, attached schedule, management letters and tax returns in accordance with firm policies, procedures and standards.

Ensures all queries and outstanding points have been resolved satisfactorily. Identifies any significant issues or findings and brings them forward to the attention of senior management, along with recommendations for their resolution.

Identifies tax planning opportunities and more efficient tax treatments for corporate and trust tax returns and brings them to the attention of senior management, where applicable.

Prepares client correspondence including reports, discussion of technical issues and recommendations.

Attends the Compilation Engagement final meeting with the client to observe and contribute towards discussions, when requested by senior management.

Assists with client billings and other duties, as required.

Demonstrates strong competent leadership for employees by guiding them in reaching their full potential, which supports the achievement of NVS goals. Specifically, these responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Full involvement with recruiting talent as guided by HR.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and guidance to employees in all aspects of their role and success.
  • Leads the performance and development process and collaborates in development opportunities.

The Process

  • Communicates firm and professional quality, quantity and budget standards with the team.
  • Delegates files to staff members based on their knowledge, experience and capabilities.
  • Ensures that staff are properly supported during the completion of each file with regular check-ins to strengthen their development.
  • Provides constructive feedback and technical expertise on all work while offering guidance and direction to staff working on files.

Education, Experience and Credentials

  • Graduate of a University Accounting Program or equivalent with a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Designation
  • 3+ years post-designation experience in a public accounting firm
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team

Knowledge Requirements and Competencies

  • Thorough understanding of GAAP, ASPE
  • Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Proficient with Tax prep Suite, CaseWare
  • Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving
  • Passion for developing team
  • Excellent organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated written, oral and client-facing communication skills
  • Fosters a culture where experimenting and measured risk-taking are expected
  • Ability to identify and recommend creative solutions
  • Values and formally recognizes innovation and creativity
